Landmarks of China
Great Wall
Over 6,000 kilometers long, the Great Wall is the symbol of the Chinese nation as well as one of the seven great wonders of the world. Even from the moon one can recognize two of the most giant wonders on earth, one of them being China's 2,000-year-old Great Wall. For over two thousand years the Great Wall separated two cultures, the nomads in the north and the agricultural way of life in the south. The nomads did not know how to cast iron and steel while the people in the south would buy livestock from the nomads. One can imagine that trade between the people of the north and the south would be mutually beneficial. In fact, however, there were constant military conflicts because trade between both sides of the wall was forbidden. A visit to the Great Wall is a review of history of over two thousand years.
The Silk Road
The Silk Road is a world-renown and most fascinating historical landmark of China and the world. The Silk Road passes and routes were used in ancient times by the Chinese and Europeans as a means of transport and communication. Long after the decline of the Silk Road, many recent excavations have been made to reveal the true significance and magnificence of the routes. The famous Han Dynasty envoy Zhang Qian took this road on his journey to the west. It is also through this road that Kumarajiva and Marco Polo arrived in China. Although silk was only one item of many others in the abundant material and cultural exchange on the route, it seemed quite something to use the gorgeous and magnificent silk to symbolize the profound friendship existing in history among the peoples of different countries; hence, people all over the world were happy to accept and call it the Silk Road when a modern German historian gave it that name in 1887.
The Grand Canal of China
The Grand Canal of China is the world's oldest and longest canal, far surpassing the next two grand canals of the world: the Suez and Panama Canals. 1,795 kilometers (1,114 miles) in length with 24 locks and some 60 bridges, the longest and 2,500-year-old man-made waterway depicts the greatness of the Ancient Chinese. The Grand Canal is the world's longest man-made waterway, being 1,800 kilometers long. The canal connects the present cities of Beijing in the north and Hangzhou in the south, which served as dynastic capitals in the past, and contains 24 locks and 60 bridges. Since most of China's major rivers flow from west to east, the fact that the Grand Canal runs north and south provides it as an important connector between the Yangtze River valley and the Yellow River valley, and other minor river systems. It is being restored as a water-diversion conduit.
Chang Jiang
Chang Jiang, or the Yangtze River, of China is China's longest river and the third-longest in the world. A trip along the river offers enchanting landscape and beautiful scenery, including SanXia, or the Three Gorges. The Yangtze, arising in Tibet in the glaciers and snow-covered mountains of the "Roof of the World", the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, and fed by hundreds of tributaries, wanders eastward across the mainland of China. It makes an incessant rush to Shanghai and empities into the East China Sea. The enormous and inexhaustible hydroelectric resources of the Yangtze, producing no waste gases, no waste water, nor waste residues, is superior to oilfields and coalfields and therefore is considered the "King" of all energies capable of generating huge profits with a minimum input. From its source to its estuary, the Yangtze River meanders over 6,300 kilometers. Its annual runoff is up to 268 million kilometers.
Culture
The Culture of China is one of the world's oldest and most complex cultures. The area in which the culture is dominant covers a large geographical region with customs and traditions varying greatly between towns, cities and provinces. Each region is usually divided into distinct sub-cultures.
Language

Mythology and spirituality
A large part of Chinese culture is based on the notion that a spiritual world exists. Countless methods of divination have helped answer questions, even serving as an alternate to medicine. Folklores have helped fill the gap for things that cannot be explained. There is often a blurred line between myth, religion and unexplained phenomenon.
Literature
The extensive collection of books that have been preserved since the Zhou Dynasty demonstrate just how advanced the intellectuals were at one time. Indeed, the era of the Zhou Dynasty is often looked to as the touchstone of Chinese cultural development.
